On April 16, 2018, I swapped my bed for a sleeping bag at York Racecourse to raise money for the homeless, in conjunction with CEO Sleepout, a movement of business leaders from across the UK aiming to help the less fortunate. I was somewhat hesitant to do it, considering recent weather conditions, but hey — I think it was a good cause!
I am a firm believer that we should all stand together in helping those who, for whatever reason, cannot help themselves. As such, it seemed only right to do all that I can to both raise money for the homeless, and to raise awareness of the awful plight that they face on ordinary streets up and down the length and breadth of our Isles.
You can continue to donate, secured by JustGiving, and I gratefully appreciate your generosity. Your donations will go a long way in making a difference to homelessness both in the City of York and nationally. If you're a UK taxpayer, you can also offer GiftAid at no extra cost, meaning that charities who benefit from my stint with the cold can reclaim another 25% of tax from your donation!
Again, I really appreciate your time, money and faith in me — I like to think that I aced it! Despite being very nervous, considering that there is no training for sleeping outdoors in cold weather, I really think that it was a cause worth risking it for. I really can't wait to see the longer-term results that my work and that of everybody participating with me makes.
If you have questions you'd like to ask, thoughts you'd like to put to me or feedback of any kind, please feel absolutely free to contact me. Otherwise, please feel free to donate and support the City's homeless population. Thank you!
